paraplegic services

Im am a paraplegic who recently joined Virgin active Menlyn and later transferred my membership to Moreleta . The gym was quick to accept my membership and payments only to realise that they dont fully cater for paraplegics .

Firstly Menlyn branch has most equipment upstairs and there is accessible rump to go up . Was told any equipment I needed would be brought down each time I visited the gym . As if that was not enough I was advised either to get a Biokinetics guy or a peronal trainer . Biokinetics charges 275 rand per cession , personal trainer charges 200rand a cession . Suppose I take Biokinetics option and use the gym five days a week I would pay additional 5500rand a month in addition to the 705 rand that I pay monthly . I dont want anyone to feel pitty for me because im paralysed but I would be honest with myself and ask Virgin active where is the logic now? Should I be punished for being paraplegic? Should I not be given a heavy discount because im not using all machines at my disposal? It seems Biokinetics is replacing the normal duties of instructors and I can automatically see Virgin active becoming highly unpopular because of these unreasonable charges and strategic flaws .

Well after the nasty ecperience at Menlyn I transferred to Moreleta . They were very welcoming but again they seem to push Biokinetics people in my way with their exhobitant charges . Instructors seem inexperienced in handling paraplegias so naturally they are not keen to spend time with you .

I want to know if it is policy for Virgin active not to help paraplegias and push them to Biokinetics people? Are they getting any mileage by introducing such an expensive service? What then is the role of internal instructors? Does It mean virgin active is not prepared to take paraplegias as customers? That would be a pleasant surprise because I saw a good rump for wheechair users and good ablution facility for same at Moreleta . But where is the service?
