Membership vs Account cancellation woes

On 25 May 2023, I contacted Virgin Active to cancel my account due to financial constraints. During that call, I had a conversation with a compassionate and understanding gentleman who assured me that my account would be canceled by 31 May 2023, without the usual 30-day notice period. I received an email confirming the cancellation and the discontinuation of any further debit orders. I was happy and impressed with the excellent customer service I received during that call. Based on this confirmation, I proceeded to contact Discovery Vitality to cancel my Vitality Membership. They advised me to ensure that my Virgin Active account cancellation was confirmed before canceling my Vitality Membership to avoid incurring full, unsponsored membership fees. Relying on the email from Virgin Active confirming the cancellation, I instructed Discovery Vitality to proceed with canceling my membership.

To my dismay, on 1 June, I discovered a debit order from Virgin Active, despite receiving assurance of account cancellation. In an attempt to seek clarification, I rep**** to the cancellation confirmation email but have not received any response thus far. Subsequently, today, I reached out to the call center once again for assistance.

To my surprise, the call agent informed me that only MY membership had been canceled, not the entire account. Furthermore, they stated that my husband and daughter needed to initiate the cancellation process for their respective memberships individually. I find it perplexing that this critical information was not conveyed to me during my initial conversation.

My husband and daughter did cancel their membership today as advised, but I am concerned that I will be held liable for the full membership fees for my daughter and husband?
