*********** and uncooperative

I left the country (SA) unexpectedly in June 2016 and informed Virgin Active to cancel my contract, I was told there would be a penalty fee. I advised them to take off the penalty fee and cancel it as I would not be back.

January 2017 I get an email from my back about a debit that has been taken off. I check my records and soon realize that Virgin have been charging me about R800 a month since my email, they had failed to cancel my contract!

I called the head office that week requesting they cancel my contract and forward the email I sent the previous year. She said she would sort it out and cancel my contract once she took off the penalty fee.

Baring in mind I had probably already overpaid the penalty.

I call my bank and file a complaint as I had stopped the debit order when I left the country back I 2016!

They advised me that they had stopped the order, however Virgin were changing the debit numbers which the system wouldn't be able to pick up.

In the interim if they payments were not going through, why had I not been contacted? Surely they must have checked the system?

Much to my dismay I find out again 6 months down the line they are still charging me!

I get in contact again and request they cancel my contract and refund me my money they have taken without my authorization!

They then tell me my account is in arrears and I owe them money!!!

They totally disregard the fact that I have written proof of me canceling my contract! And keep coming back to me asking who I felt with in the head office. They have lack of interest in being fair and sorting this situation out no matter what I say.

This is unacceptable and I highly advise people to be wary of opening contracts with them as they are happy to assist with opening one for you but extremely uncooperative when you need to cancel it!

I personally cannot afford to be paying an R800 a month contract when I am not even using it hence the reason I had to cancel.
