I am out of words to describe the embarrassment and treatment by Virgin Active

This is unacceptable behavior from a world class company

1. I cancelled my Vitality, so my membership was automatically upgraded and i was suddenly faced with close to R1000 debit order. I don't even get an email, SMS or warning i just see the amount from my bank SMS - when i signed the debit order permission - i did not give free reign over my account for whatever Virgin Active feels like debiting, if the terms of my contract changes, they should at least have a discussion with me before debiting triple my initial installment.

2. Anyway, i go to their website and change my package to a R600 plus/minus package for the same gym. I am told i must pay R150 for changing my package (as ridiculous as that sounds, i agree to pay by debit order).

3. Today i go to the gym and i am told my membership has been suspended because i have an outstanding debit order of R150. How is my membership suspended when i have already paid month in advance close to R1000, but i owe R150 - because a debit order has not gone through. R1000-R150 = R850<R600???? (my new membership fee) - so my account should actually have a positive balance. The receptionist is so rude, demands i pay the R150 then and there or i don't get access to the gym - 6pm AT Sandton Virgin Active Receptionist. I tell her, Virgin active actually owes me money because i over-paid this month, but i was still willing to pay by debit order the R150 knowing i would settle the credit in the next month, probably have a smaller debit order - but i am not going to pay R150 in cash right now, i don't know why the debit order would not have gone through - whether Virgin Active have just decided to schedule it for another date or whether the bank rejected it because it might have looked suspicious since i have already been debited for the month from the same company.

4. I get on the line with a Customer Care agent, who says she will sort it out, my account will be credited and i can go to the gym.

5. I go back to the gym, i am still denied entry

At this stage, i should just cancel this membership, i mean who does business like this? I can pay for a month in advance and still be refused entry to the gym because of a change in membership fee? When my account actually has positive credit?

If my debit order was rejected by the bank - why didn't anyone feel the need to let me know - sms much? just let me find out when i am trying to enter the gym, embarrass me in front of everyone.

I mean what the 8888
