Hidden Costs & Dishonest practice

In August I went to Virgin Active to find out whether there are membership options for less than R500 as that is all I can afford , The sales consultant asked me how old I am ,I said 21 turning 22 in october -She then proceeded to sell me a membership for R439 pm ,choosing to NOT tell me that I will ONLY qualify for that price for three months as my age bracket will change as soon as its my birthday then It will be R539 pm which I can't afford.(Why would I sign a 24 month contract with a fee that I knew I couldnt afford ?)

Without even warning me the debit order is changed to the new amount .I looked for a copy of my contract only to discover I was never provided with a copy, So I dont know what the terms and conditions are . When I enquired about canceling because 1: this is not what was sold to me 2: I cant afford this payment pm, then they only sent me a copy of my contact(This was a week ago) To my surprise I see this contract Is a contract my mom filled in more than 5 years ago with an adress I last lived in 2012. Virgin Active wants me to pay 4x my monthly fee to cancel my membership, a membership I would have never agreed to If they had been honest about the price that would increase in three months. I feel that because of the following: 1:Their dishonesty regarding the pricing and increases 2:The old information on the contract that wasnt even confirmed with me or provided by me 3:The fact that I wasnt provided with a copy of my contract,And the contract wasnt explained to me . I shouldnt be liable to pay a cancelation fee, especially not 4x my monthly membership fee that is not even what was agreed to by me.

They offered me a reduced cancelation fee that is still a R1000+ , I am not happy with that. I want the membership cancelled at No cost extra for me because the only reason it is being cancelled is because of them withholding information about hidden costs and increases.

I know It is also my responsibility to insist on a contract etc , But as much as what it is my responsibility I feel that it is theirs too -It was my mistake to trust Virgin Active ,I told the sales consultant this is my first time ever taking on a mebership/contract.Now I know not to expect of anyone to be honest with me regarding things like this, Especially not virgin active.

Im extremely disappointed in this situation and also in how it is being handled by the company.

Please help !
