Empty promises and 'specials' that never materialise - Richard Branson would be DISGUSTED
I was a member at Virgin years ago but left because of horrible customer service. My partner convinced me to give it another try and we signed up at Virgin Active Victory Park in January under the premise that if we attended at least 4 times on 4 separate days before the end of January, February and March would be free. Firstly, the person 'assisting' us with the initial admin fee processed the payments wrong and made it MY responsibility to rectify the issue (ended up taking the whole payment in one month instead of splitting it over 2 months as agreed, which I had not budgeted for). Next, we were given new cards 4 days after we got the original cards, as our cards did not work when we were attempting to use them. At this point I wanted to back out since the contract was not even officially signed yet, but my partner convinced me to be patient. On the last day of January I informed the person 'assisting' us that we had already been there the required amount of times (6 times between 24 and 31 January, to be precise), and she assured us that even though not all of the visits were documented on the electronic system (between the changing of cards and load shedding) she would ensure that our visits are accurately logged so that we receive our 2 free months. All of a sudden I was then informed that there was some kind of issue, and we would only be getting March and April free (once again, February's payment was not in my budget). Next thing you know I am billed for March and then for April. I logged a ticket via the manager at the gym in April (she was wonderful but couldn't seem to solve the problem) and the ticket was closed with no feedback ***). I was then billed AGAIN for May. I spent more than 150 minutes trying to get through to someone at Virgin on the phone to no avail, and logged another ticket via the woman who did our contract. The ticket was closed again (with no feedback to me) because according to the 'system' (which is clearly defective and which I raised concerns about multiple times in the last 4 months) does not show that we were there between the cards firstly not working, card change-over, and load shedding. There is no feedback from the gym itself on how or whether this can be resolved, and I am at an absolute loss for words - Virgin Active has ****** money to the equivalent of 2 months' fees from me. All I can say after this God-forsaken awful experience (made even worse by my previous bad experience with Virgin) is DON'T DO IT. Do not take out a contract with these people. Their employees make empty promises. They don't honour the piece of paper they provide you with. Nobody provides any feedback when there's an issue. The call-centre may as well not exist. They don't actually care AT ALL that they have unhappy clients, and they definitely don't care about the fact that I am now missing a lot of money that I would have otherwise had. I'm currently just trying to decide whether to pay the 2 month cancellation penalty or wait out the 12 months. After that no Virgin Active in the world will see me again.
