Disability Bathroom State and Lack of Access

I’ll get straight to the point. This complaint is regarding the access to the disability bathroom as well as the state of the bathroom at Virgin Active Greenacres.

I’ve reported on separate occasions that the toilet seat is broken and a month later it’s still not fixed.

Yesterday 22/08/2018 I went into the gym locker room. The disability bathroom was occupied by a non-disabled person, I waited and went in. The place was so dirty and I was pretty angry, so I went to the front desk and asked to speak to the manager. Kim came out to listen to my complaint, I told her the bathroom is a mess and asked if the gym could keep the disability bathroom locked and then disabled members could fetch the key from front desk, that way we could ensure the place stays clean and only the people with disabilities would be able to access the shower that is designated for their use, she said she would have to ask the gym owner. I said ok. She then asked the cleaning staff to go clean up. After I finished my gym session I went downstairs and the bathroom was exactly as I left it and hour and 15 minutes before, I took photos to show Kim. I went to the front desk again to ask to speak to Kim again, but she wasn’t available. Another gentleman came to talk to me, he thought I was going to complain about the toilet seat, before I could say a word, he said they were waiting for parts. I said thanks but I was going to ask why the bathroom is still a dirty, I showed him the photos. He then said he was going to get the cleaning crew.

I understand that the gym can’t control the actions of the regular gym members, they don’t care and will continue to use the disability bathroom and leave it in a mess. BUT the gym can implement a system, they can keep it locked and disabled members could fetch the key from the front desk.

I joined the gym because it provided a wheelchair friendly environment. I have used the disability shower once. I don’t stay in PE, so I can’t just go home quickly and shower there.

I would appreciate if the owner would consider the lock and key system. Thank you.
