Contract not cancelled when told it was cancelled

I recently signed up again at your little falls facility where I used to go 4 years ago. During sign up everything went well and there were no hassles. About a week later I was stopped and told I owe arrears on my old account of R1800 odd rand. Which made me very mad as I cancelled my contract in February 2014. I gave notice to the gym directly and I called the call centre as I was told its the best way to cancel. I also emailed the club manager at that time to make sure my contract was cancelled which I remember getting a response that all was sorted. I have never been contacted or revived any communication about this outstanding amount and it's almost 4 years later. Please can you let me know how this can be sorted out?
