Cancellation of my contract

Good Morning, please help I joined virgin active red in January 2018 hoping to attend gym regularly unfortunately i cannot attend the gym due to family and work commitments ( never went to gym) I phoned them to cancel my gym and debit order but i was advised to pay R800+ unfortunately i cannot afford to pay the fee and for the fact that they've been debiting my account from Jan and i was not attending the Gym I ask them to freeze my membership and they advised that i still have to pay 50% of the monthly fee. currently paying R269.00
