Cancellation of contract problems

I have not been using my membership for the past couple of months. I have tried to find out on the possibility of transferring to a club with cheaper membership fees but unfortunately I still cannot afford it. I have relocated to another town as from last year November and there is no Virgin Active facilities close by. I am full-time student and the gym membership fees were being deducted from my sister's account who of which can no longer pay for me. I am not working and according to the Consumer Protection Act, I may notify your company of my cancellation. I don't think it's fair that I have to be bound to this membership especially if I can't utilize it and afford it. I didn't receive a copy of my contract that states the 40% cancellation fee that I meant to pay. I have tried to cancel my contract since end of November last year. Now I'm in arrears for a membership I don't use. I cannot afford my membership or to settle out of the contract. I don't want to freeze the membership as a backup solution as 6months down the line I'll be having the same recurring problem. I wouldn't have joined the gym again had I known your company *********ly binds members in such a manner.
