Cancelation fee

I went to virgin active vereeniging about 2months ago and spoke to a consultant by the name of mpho explaining to him me and my wife is wotking long hours we would like to try and see if we can make it to the gym at a daily basis were by he assured me that he will give me two months free to see if we can make it work long story short we then used the gym for a week and then we came to the conclusion we will not be able to make it at a daily basis we then asked him to cancel the membership, he completely denied ever telling us so and told us to call head office to cancel after calling head office the are looking for a cancelation fee of R3000 is this how virgin active traps there people WORST GYM EVER WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!!
