Call Centre staff are unhelpful

For two years I have been paying both my husbands and my gym membership like clockwork. We both have not been attending gym and it has probably been more than a year since once of us has even been to the gym. But honoruing my contract I still pay it every month.

I have been phoning every month for probably the last 3 months to find out about cancelling my membership, however I just do not have the monies to pay the left over of the contract. I thought that my contract came to an end in August as I had said I want to cancel. I stopped the payment, only to be told no I still had another month to go, and my husbands account another few more months!! I said to the consultant that I should be finished now with my membership which I do not even use and he must please cancel it, and my husbands account, well he is not working at the moment and we cannot afford to keep paying it. I just got a "okay mam". That was it. Then I was getting emails to phone because apparently I am in arrears, and then they debited my account on the 30th of the month which is not the date that I have set the direct debit up for. So I phoned yesterday, I explained the story, I was then forwarded to accounts. Accounts said that I am now on a month to month and I have not asked to cancel which is what I did!! Apparently the person I spoke to the month before just put the comments on both mine and my husbands accounts as "husband not working refuses to pay a cent"!!! How professional is that!! Now I am getting told that I didnt' cancel and I would have to pay money and I must speak to the guy who I spoke to the month before. I am still waiting for a call.

How do I get this thing resolved? I only agreed to a contract period and I refuse to have to go through paying month to month when I don't even use the gym. I think its absolutely disgusting. Virgin does what ever they like and we have no say in anything. They do voice recordings why have they not gone back to the conversation I had.

Feeling angry.
