Blatant Lies!!!

My workplace had a Health and Wellness day with different vendors. Virgin Active happened to be one of those vendors.

I approached them to see what they offered and was extremely reluctant to join. The agent who helped me, Paul, sold me so many dreams and blatant lies. He advised me that as I was reluctant and unsure, I would have the first month free( which according to me is 30 calendar days) and after that could link my vitality card to the membership to pay a discounted rate of R133 or something like that.

10 Days later my bank account is debited by R545 by Virgin Active. As I work a 12-hour shift I didn't immediately attend to it. Friday (15 days into my free trial month) I went to them to advise of the error and my wish to cancel the membership.

They then advised that the charge was correct as the month free trial starts the day you join and only counts til the end of that particular month!! I'm also advised that cancellation is only allowed in the first five days (which no one mentioned to me AT ALL) and if I were to cancel, I would have to pay 40% of the total 2year contract which is R5232.

Firstly, I find it absolutely revolting that the 5 day cooling off period wasn't mentioned to me?! Apart from that, the 30 day free 'trial' was MISOLD to me- As I was under the impression I had 30 days to make a decision!!!

While at Virgin on Friday, Paul then denies not mentioning the 5-day cooling of period, claiming him telling me to link my Vitality membership within 5 days was him doing that!! IN WHAT UNIVERSE DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE?!?!!

I've basically been told by Virgin Active staff that it's tough I didn't decipher their hidden agenda and have to deal with a 24 month contract, that was MISOLD to me! When he gave me the offer, I told him I work 12 hours a day- the 30 day trial and its lies were the only reason I signed up!!

I want out of this contract as I was misinformed and misadvised, and the staff at Virgin Active Wembley Square in Gardens are not willing to assist me one bit!!

Thank you so much! E-mail is the most convenient, as I hardly use my cellphone. Will do so, thank you.
