BEWARE BEFORE SIGNING THAT CONTRACT - TAKE NOTE !!! IF YOU MOVE AND THERE IS NO GYM, YOU PAY!

I signed up on a 24 month contract in April 2016. It happens that I accepted a job offer on the lower South Coast, and there is no Virgin Active club established in the area. Thus, Virgin Active cannot provide me with service going forward. They now want me to pay 40% of the balance of my contract in order for my contract to be cancelled! So I am expected to pay well over R2500.00 (R 3216.40 as at May 25th) for a service which I will not receive!

I informed VA of my plans at the end of May 2017 and received the following response :-

"Please note in the contract terms and conditions you have agreed to pay a cancellation fee should you cancel before the commitment expire. Due to the nature of the cancellation I will request for a reduction in the cancellation fees however you would need to provide proof of your relocation. Once this is received I will be able to advise the amended cancellation fee."

So basically, I must still pay and it is being imp**** that I am lying about moving??? This is how you will be treated, take note. I must provide proof because I am a ****, or what?

I agreed to provide a copy of my lease agreement which I will receive on June 29th and requested that they do not bill me for the month of July. I asked that they cancel the contract, and suggested that we come to an agreement on a fair cancellation early in July. This was the response:-

"Unfortunately your contract can only be cancelled once you have paid the cancellation fee."

In addition to the cancellation fee which will only be negotiated early in July, I will have to pay over R700.00 for July fees which is of zero benefit to me!

Virgin Active needs to amend their cancellation policy where a client is cancelling for reasons beyond their control. Contrary however, VA expects me to base my life and career decisions on where their clubs are situated, otherwise I must pay.

This is absolutely PATHETIC.
