Bad service at Virgin Active

I joined virgin active with my partner we took a year contract, just a month before the contract finish we cancel, Suprise that Virgin Active was still deducting the instalments and later we were told we owing we are on arrears, how ? Because I cancelled the membership, what a bad service on their administration.
