Allen the Awful

On Wednesday afternoon, the 11th Jan, I decided to try a yoga class at The Virgin Active Point gym. The class was taken by a yoga instructor named Allen. I must admit that it was probably the worst and most unprofessional class I have ever been to.

Firstly, instead of Allen memorising his class as a yoga instructor should, he had his class drawn out on a piece of paper and kept having to look at it back and forth - making the class disrupted. Secondly, he would forget to complete yoga stretches from left to right and the participants taking part of the class had to keep calling out and reminding him. This is extremely bad to not complete specific yoga stretches from left to right as a 'new' participant to yoga could severely hurt themself.

The worst part was Allen's attitute towards the class including myself. Instead of helping my fellow participants with the different yoga positions he would shout out loud "you're doing it wrong, you're wrong, stop the position now!". He did not correct this participant but instead elaborated why they were doing the position so wrong. His comment to me was "Have you left your brain outside of the classroom?" because I wasn't sitting close enough to the wall for the next position. These were just the few that stood out to me. This kind of commentary is belittling and unconstructive and simply rude. It is also extremely disruptive and withheld the class from proceeding onto other exercises because this man's ego was far more important than the participants paying him to be there.

Virgin Active Point, yoga is supposed to be a calming exercise and Allens's behaviour completely derailed the purpose of it.
