A gym that just refuses to let you go ...

Virgin Active just won't let me cancel my son's contract. My teenage son is on a month-to-month contract. First, when I tried to cancel his contract I was told by the call centre agent that since being hacked he could not tell me how long it would take to cancel, weeks or even months, and then convinced me rather to freeze and I would be charged only 25% of the contract. Well that was a lie, come the first of the month and the full amount was debited. So I contacted Virgin Active again and requested cancellation. This time I was told the membership was now cancelled and I would no longer be debited. A lie again; come the first of the month and I was again debited. So I reversed the debit order and yet again phoned Virgin Active complaining that I had cancelled and I had reversed the debit order because I refuse to pay for a contract that I had already cancelled. I was told that the membership was still active but it would now be cancelled. Yet another lie: come the first of the month and yet again I was debited. So I stopped the debit order. Lo and behold, who should call but Virgin Active to say that I am in arrears for my son's membership and that it is still active. But wait: They can cancel it now, but I must still pay them because I am in arrears. This is **************** by a corporate bully. I will not be paying for something I cancelled TWICE. Virgin Active up your game ... there are many reasons why people cancel contracts, one being they can no longer afford it. I will not ever be back.
