A company with little to no integrity
During the month on November, around the 8th, we took out a 1 year family membership with Virgin Active via Sifiso at the Pavilion Branch in Durban. Sifiso , the consultant was friendly and we believedeverything he told us only to discover over the next week that a lot of what he told us about the contract was incorrect. Nevertheless, he apologised and we accepted. Then we were sent an e-mail indicating an increase in the monthly fees, according to Virgin Active (I called the number that is the headoffice and only other number to call other than the branch) it does not matter when your contract starts, it could have started a week before the new year but the fees change and increase from the 1st of January every year irrespective. I even let that go. It's going through month 2 now, my son's app won't work, they just say they are escalating to IT and no time frame is given, the rewards don't show or activate on the app as we were told and the only response I've been given is that they are working on the issue, in the meantime, we got to call through (charged) every week and have them manually sort the app out and points and rewards, etc. Points are not added. Sifiso did the membership, which is a family membership and allows you to go to numerous branches, yet my son was put down only for Pavilion, that took around 2 hours of being on the phone, getting cut off numerous times and explaining the same thing numerous times to different people to be sorted out. If it's sorted out I will only know in January if he is denied access again to any other branch other than pavilion. All this has been most frustrating and stressful, Sifiso's response is that he does not know, please call the number at the back of the card. Today was the limit. Sifiso insisted we can only use debit order to complete the membership, to which I signed for all and gave him banking details. The debit date is set for the 1st of every month, Vigin Active debited the account but only partially. 2 days ago, Sifiso called me and asked me to pay X amount via a link he will send me as the debit order for my husband's membership did not go through. I informed him that virgin Active did not debit the account, I checked my account, they did not even attempt to do so and the money is in the account. He is aware I'm not comfortable with link payments etc. I informed him of this and the fact that companies, even those that do debit and the debit fails, redebit the account 10 days later. It was only a few days and the 10th was still 4 days away. With the numerous issues since taking out the membership I was not prepared for them to still debit had I paid before the 10 days. That just brings up an added issue for me. This was 2 days ago, today we discovered that they have blocked my husband's app and card, basically his entire membership for no fault of ours. This company doesn't seem to have any integrity, their consultants are obviously not trained well or will say anything to get a deal done and headoffice/ call center or anyone that may be able to help is closed on weekends. The only upside is that if there were no issues, most of the staff I've met and dealt with thus far have been friendly and polite and the gyms are good. Service is another story and causes a lot of stress and frustration and a lot of misinformation is given. They will be at fault as now, but we the clients are made to suffer. They did not debit the account, and immediately blocked the membership. I don't think the stress and all the problems that come with a virgin Active membership is worth it.
