I joined Virgin Active Red Brackenfell on a promotion for the special rate of about R4500/12months (Paid cash), just for the spinning classes which was advertised as 4/week. There were instructors only 2 days/week and the classes were empty...Most bikes needed repairs and only the instructor` bike had a watercage. Instructors` training was poor as nobody knew the correct way of setting up the bikes and handlebars were skyhigh. You can google the correct way! After a written complaint, the regional manager came out and looked around. In the next few days 6 of the about 15 bikes got watercages.. Other equipment in the gym also had cracked screens etcetc etc. Instructors mostly just know high rpm exercise and no jumps or mountains. People were sitting on bikes not set up correctly and I know as I had my own spinning studio. After about a month and a half, the sourced a new instructor which I thought was worse than anything - clapping hands and doing moves unlike cycling which it was suppose to be.(Much can be said of the training of these instructors...???) The classes were not full as other gyms because of all of the previous problems. I was there about 42 times and I cancelled as I thought the did advertised proper cycling classes which it was not and broken equipment and I hated being nearly alone everytime. Classes had about 4 - 8 people sometimes.. Most of the times there was no paper to clean the bikes of sweat and when you come other times of the day, the cleaners are all around you???Cant they work after hours? I feel I needed to be compensated properly as it was not me wanting to cancel but their feeble classes and broken bikes and no instructors that made me do it. I even gave classes on about 8 occasions where nothing was said and then later I was banned (obviously as I havent had the neccessary papers and I moaned too much) After I cancelled and asked umpteenth times, it went through according to their branch manager but thay would be taking 40% minus the day I was there. I feel that is a total **** as it was not me but their mistake in broken equipment and not enough instructors which I paid for? 40% is massive for me as a pensioner. I suppose I have read enough of the gym ****s before to know about it and as I am addicted to spinning I wanted to believe that the classes would have been worthwhile. Money down the drain!!!! 40%????? Oh, and I still havent received the money they owe me while I paid cash on the spot. ****mers. Better gyms out there.
