What supposed to be one of the best hospitals in Cape Town in my experience is clearly not.

With our medical aid plan we had the option of having the birth of our daughter at Vincent Palloti hospital, so by hearing what a “fantastic” hospital it is we had our hearts set on them.

The day of birth we were booked in and everything, after my partner being in huge amounts of pain and sedated she is then given documents to sign and just told lightly what it is and that it needs to be signed right now, no option of reading the clauses or anything of the sorts. One document I ensuered to sign is the one that ask if we would like our daughters placenta, knowing we would not leave the same say i signed for it and asked that they refrigerate it u till we’re checked out and they agreed.

Untill it was asked for we were then told they had lost it or it had been incinerated against my wishes and against a signed document. We’re then asked if we’re Muslim to that I answer no and then told that we need an affidavit etc to indicate what our intentions are with the organ. Never being I formed if that when signing and not being given the chance to read through the documents that needed to be signed at all.

It might seem like a small thing but in my opinion it is not. Not only was my daughter placenta “lost” but the treatment that my partner received was far from the so called Vincent palloti highly recommended and trusted service that we anticipated. I shall go no further with this review but remember medical aid or not Vincent Palloti is highly expensive as well as inconsistent with the service in which they give each patient. To those using them in the future my best wishes goes out to you.
