no status change after so many months

It's been more than five months waiting for the outcome of an appeal. I once called and I was told that the system is not working properly and I should keep checking. When I called again I was told to give my details and they'll do a follow up. No one ever got back to me and I'm still waiting. My visa expires in less than a week and I really don't know what to do.
