Late Response to applications

I understand that permanent residence applications take a while to process. Some longer than the prescribed 8-10 months. It has been almost 12 months since I app****. However, because I will be doing an extra year next year for my degree, I need to know where my application stands so that I can know whether or not to apply for an extension of my study visa. If the processing of my Permanent residence application were to be expedited I would greatly appreciate it because I am running out of time.
