Poor Worksmanship & Lack Of Accountability
In December 2024, one of the diamonds on my ring purchased from Vernon White fell off. I also own two other rings from reputable jewellers, which I had to remove in order to send my ring for repairs. At Vernon White, I was advised to resize all three rings, which I agreed to. The Vernon White workshop further recommended retipping my 9ct ring. On 31 January 2025, I collected my rings. Following the repairs, I repeatedly raised concerns over several months regarding the workmanship, as the rings felt thinner and frequently caught on delicate fabrics. Despite my complaints, the issues persisted, and in December 2025 the diamond fell out of my 9ct ring which was retipped by Vernon White. The expectation is that the work performed by Vernon White should be of a professional standard and adequately protect the stone. Instead, I have suffered financial and sentimental loss due to poor workmanship. I approached the Jewellery Council of SA for mediation, but nothing fruitful came out of this. Vernon White Jewellers appears unwilling to acknowledge responsibility. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of accountability and the substandard quality of repairs. My post here is to advise and ensure future customers are not subjected to similar negligence.
