Terrible & unprofessional treatment when returning defective Verimark product that is within the 6-months warranty period
I had a terrible experience at the Verimark at the Game store in Middelburg mall on the 25th of May 2024. I bought a Genesis MegaSteam iron on the 12th of February 2024 from the store. The iron stopped working and decided to return it to the Verimark outlet in Middelburg Mall on the 25th of May. I kindly requested the gentleman on duty (Mish) to assist in replacing the iron as it was still under the 6-months warranty, however, insisted on booking the iron which I didn’t agree with because I have tons of laundry that needs to be ironed and this would’ve been an inconvenience for me. The Verimark gentleman insisted on this approach, which highly contradicts the Consumer Protection Act in terms of returning defective goods.
The CPA states that I have a right to return a good on the basis of the supplier repairing, replacing or refunding me if the defect is within the 6-months warranty period, however, it is the right of the consumer to chose any of the above and a supplier may not decide for the consumer.
The gentleman insisted that Verimark’s warranty are law and above the CPA, which I highly disagree with. I am terribly aggrieved by this manner of customer treatment and the lack of respect towards the Consumer Protection Act shown by the Verimark Personnel at Game Store Middelburg Mall.
No retailer or supplier is above the Consumer Protection Act especially when I’m returning a defective product that is well within the 6-months warranty period governed by law. I intend to take further legal steps regarding this matter should Verimark fail to address my unpleasant customer experience.
Please note that all repairs take up to 21 days turnaround time

We follow the rules and regulations of the CPA as per below for your perusal.
Verimark strictly aligns itself with the regulations set out by the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) to ensure our customers are always protected. According to the CPA, a supplier must guarantee a product to be free of manufacturing or material defects for six months. If there is a defect present within the first six months, the supplier must offer the customer a repair, refund, or exchange
· Proof of purchase is required.
· This is a satisfactory guarantee we offer our customers.
· When a customer has the opportunity to inspect goods before finalizing the transaction, he has no automatic right or “cool off” period to a return or refund if he is not satisfied with the product or its performance, as he had the opportunity to inspect the goods before purchasing it.
· We thus offer 15 Day money back guarantee which is not even prescribed in the CPA.
· In the event whereby the deadline is missed by a day or two, we will still assist.
· Items over the value of R399.00 are required to be assessed before offering a refund. (This may be done in-store)
· Within 6 months from the purchase date
Receipt is required for proof of guarantee
Technical assessment to be done.
The customer has the option of Repair, Exchange, or Refund.
In the event whereby customer abuse is detected, no refund or exchange is to be offered as this only applies to defects on the product.
If the customer opts for a repair, the repair will be guaranteed for three months, which will run concurrent with the original guarantee. (Will not add three months to the original guarantee)
In the case where the repair fails and the unit is returned within three months from the original repair, the customer then has the right to a Refund, Exchange, or Repair.
