What is SETTLEMENT

I was handed over to Vreicred as 99% of the public, through Ampath. I have now for the last two days been fighting with them to pay off my account in full. I keep on asking for the settlement amount and everytime they first give me one amount and then the next second an other amount that is higher then the first?? The more I stipilate for the SETTLEMENT amount the more I get two different amounts. One gentlemen ask the floor manager and I was told they do not do discounts. For such a massive place I cannot understand that they do not know what settlement mean and or that they don't give "discount". After all the other companies gave me a 20% Settlement. I want to pay the settlement amount can someone please explain settlement to Vericred so that I can pay and get this expensive/ lying company off my back!
