very unhappy about how things are done
On the 12 December 2017 i got a phone call from vericred giving me my balance of R412 which i told them i would settle end of January. I was informed that the setllement amount is not the same because they must still add the telephone call so its R540.33. I asked them why are they charging interest because the college never informed a person of any balance. I was told they do not charge interest only for the calls. January I received another but it was not even end of January when i promised to settle which i informed them that i will still settle. End of January I settled as promised but the payment never went through on the 10th of February i received another sms with a new balance of R638.57 i than immediately contacted my bank and they informed me payment was never released. They also state in the sms's that if already paid I should ignore sms. They have contacted me again and i have explained this to them but they are demanding the balance be paid to them which i think is unfair. They should also listen to the call where the lady informed me no interest is added. Please help me
Good day,further to your comments, interest is applicable on all outstanding balances in terms of the contract with the College. We have however agreed to write of the small amount of interest of R19-85 accrued on your outstanding account since handover as a gesture of goodwill. However , the outstanding balance on your account is in respect of legal collection costs accrued in the collection processes. Your overdue account was handed over for collection already in August 2017 and you only effected a payment in February 2018, i.e. some 6 months after handover. Kindly note that you are liable to settle the outstanding costs in terms of the Debt Collectors Act,114 of 1998, as your account was handed to a debt collection agency. There is also a receipting fee cost applicable on the payment made of 10% (exclusive of VAT). Kindly refer to the website of the Council for Debt Collectors to see the applicable charges by a debt collector: www.cfdc.org.za. Please be guided accordingly.
