VeriCred Collections suspicous call
I have just recieved a call from VeriCred stating that i owe them 'costs' for debt that i had with DUT in 2015 - 2016. I had paid of my debt with DUT ealry 2017. VeriCred has never contacted me prior to this and when i asked the consultant why, she says that they didnt have my contact details on file when i have had the same email address and phone number for the last 10 years. The number she called from is ***. When i asked her for a statement she says that it will cost me R25.00 which is ridculous because i have never recived any invoice or statement for 'costs' or 'fees'. All my debt is settled as far as i am aware and accourding to my credit reports.

24 Jun 2021, 09:51Good day MIKYLE I, thank you for your repotrt.
Please take cognisance of the fact that due to your overdue DUT account handed over for collection in 2017, whereby they instructed us to collect the outstanding on their behalf, there is naturally collection fees involved. You are liable for the legal collection fees accrued in terms of the Debt Collectors Act, 114 of 1998, Annexure B, irrrespective if you made the monthly payments direct to the institution. Please refer to the applicable fees by a registered debt collector by referring to the website of the Council for Debt Collectors: www.cfdc.org.za. There is a receipting fee applicable of 10% (plus VAT) on all payments being effected and is the bulk of the outstanding balance on your account.
We have however agreed to waive a portion of the legal collection fees accrued as a gesture of goodwill, you will thus still be contacted for the remaining balance until the account in question is settled.
Kind regards.
