Please assist urgently.
I was handed over for an outstanding doctor's account. When they phoned me, I asked for a statement as I was unaware of any outstanding doctor's bills. This was for a period when I was treated in ICU in 2020. The agent kept promising me a complete statement that I could query with my medical aid. When she called again I repeated my request. To date, I have not received any statement. I, in the meantime, queried it with my medical aid and they confirmed that I was liable for a part of the account. I have informed them that I settled the bill with the doctor but they still send me messages regularly and are adding more and more costs. I have worked in the collections industry long enough to know what my rights are and what are amounts they are allowed to charge as set out in the DCA.
Kindly note that we have requested the manager of your account to contact your regarding the overdue Dr's account that was handed over for collection in May due to non payment and to forward you a statement.
However, contrary to your conmments, please take note that Vericred is registered with the Council of Debt Collectors and as a result our charges are atrictly in adherence with legislation and in accordance with the Debt Collectors Act 114 of 1998. All charges to your outstanding account is thus legal and within guidelines. The relevant charges by a debt collector is evident on the Council's website for your perusal: www.cfdc.org.za.
