Harassment and violating the POPI ACT

1) They keep phoning from different numbers, several times a day, calls where they don't speak 2) More than one call a day 3) Smses to bombard a person 4) They now somehow got hold of my soon to be ex husbands number which is causing ***x for me. How are they even allowed to call him as the POPI Act has made it clear that that you cant just randomly phone numbers to try and get hold of someone. 5) I told the consultant to make a note that its my soon to be ex husbands number and verified that it wont be contacted again but guess what.... they are still harassing him and making trouble with my divorce proceedings. 6) There is a difference between debt collection and harassment, VERICRED HARASSES PEOPLE. 7) At one point they started calling me at work (a nr I did not give them) 8) VERICRED states that they harass me by my work, calls, sms and by my soon to be ex husband because I don't answer my phone. I advised that I am working during the day... they can sms but nope still harassing me and my soon to be ex husband.

I am looking after 5 people on my salary alone since my husband lost his job and now going through a divorce, I told you this.

Do you guys collect debt for government hospitals outstanding debt or do you guys buy over the arrears accounts as a portfolio and then try to make that money back???

I have to put food on the table for 5 people and try not to get blacklisted or lose my home. At this stage instead of creating more hassles for me with my divorce - rather hand me over or blacklist me. But this harassment and this matter of contacting my job and my ex husband is not the way to go about it, rather blacklist me than cause trouble at my job which feeds my kids or with my ex husband. Train your staff to read notes on the system, incorporate your system to say which form of contact to use and TRAIN YOUR STAFF NOT TO PHONE PEOPLES EX HUSBANDS.

Reviewer Update
I read through a few of the reviews on HelloPeter regarding VeriCred. Just an observation. I like how they can say in replies that someone can be taken further for defamatory comments but when they harass people from several different numbers, hang up on calls causing missed called and even start phoning peoples jobs and ex spouses then there is nothing mentioned, they dont advise their staff to only use the contact nr given or the method agreed upon. POPI Act is not followed but can threaten and say about legal action and defamatory comments - this shook me to the core right now with anger actually. Yes Vericred deals with the most sensitive matter... money and arrears but there is a certain way not to go about it.

Official
Good day ANGIE H******, we thank you for your report.
We hereby wish to place on record that we are fully in compliance with and in adherence to POPIA in terms of strict regulations. Kindly take cognisance that we do not randomly pick numbers to contact people on handed over accounts. The contact details of your husband/ex-husband was provided with the handover of your outstanding accounts by our clients as he was indicated as a next of kin/person of reference.
As per advice from our Boston branch in reply to your email sent d/d 09/11/2021, the relevant number was contacted a maximum of three times since handover, however, no personal or unduly information was shared. We also note that the agents cannnot get hold of you despite several attempts in that the number always rings and goes to voicemail.
Be that as it may, we hereby confirm that the relevant contact number of your husband or ex-husband was duly inactivated on your profile not to be utilised again.
Our records further reflect that you currently have two (2) outstanding and overdue hospital accounts which were handed over for collection with no payments forthcoming for +-6 months since March and April 2021 respectively. Please note that we do not harrass you as is being alleged, but that our clients, i.e. the hospitals, instructed us to collect the outstanding monies on your overdue accounts on their behalf in terms of the contract. We are thus obliged to collect and contact you in the normal collection processes until such time that both the accounts in question are settled in full or until our clients request us to retract and close the accounts.
Thank you, kind regards.
