******* collections
I was recently contacted by Vericred Attorneys regarding an alleged old MTN router contract. I made it clear from the beginning that I do not acknowledge this debt.
As per my records, the account was opened in 2020 and last paid or used in 2022. No payments or written acknowledgments have been made in over three years, and I believe the debt is therefore prescribed in terms of the Prescription Act 68 of 1969.
I sent a formal request for proof of this debt on 7 July 2025, asking for:
A copy of the signed contract
Full payment history
Any legal action that may have interrupted prescription
On 16 July, I received a password-protected PDF from a no-reply email — not a valid or legal response. To date, they have failed to provide any evidence that prescription was interrupted by a summons or legal process.
This type of harassment over prescribed debt is ********, and I will not be intimidated. I request that all collection activity stop immediately and that this matter be confirmed as closed. Any credit bureau listing will be challenged and reported.
We are currently facing challenges regarding your service provider and the matter is being addressed. However, please take cognisance that we did not go and ask for your account, it was handed over to us by your service provider. Formal correspondence in this regard was forwarded to you earlier today with the relevant statement reflecting the outstanding balance as received from our client, check also your junk mail and spam folders as well if you do not find it in the inbox.
If you claim that the account has prescribed or allege that you do not acknowledge your debt, we amicably suggest that you investigate and take it up with them directly, as the relevant information and email address was duly provided to you in said correspondence.
Thank you
