Account paid up, keep harassing me

In February 2015 Vericred phoned me regarding an outstanding amount of R713-90 on my Ampath account. Arrangements was done to pay the account which I paid in three amounts, which was as follow

- R313.90 on 25-02-2015

- R200 on 31-03-2015

- R200 on 24-04-2015

After the last payment, I never heard from them again.

Since December 2015 they started phoning me again about an outstanding amount which now is nearly R820 due to charges they added to the account. According to them that is for telephone calls and interest. I keep telling them that they told me the balance in February was R713-90 which I had to pay (which I did), which according to them was incorrect as it did not include their charges.

Every time they refuse to tell me why these extra costs are only incurred now, and they either phone me and put the phone down when I answer, or they drop the phone in my ear, and worst part is, they charge me for those calls.

I am sick and tired of their incompetence and harassment. I paid what was agreed on in February 2015, how can they, almost a year later, demand charges for interest and phone calls.

Hello chantell1985,

Thank you for your report. Your allegations were subsequently investigated and we would like to reiterate as follows: the overdue account was handed over by our client Ampath due to non-payment at the end of February 2015. Contary to your comments, VeriCred could not have told you that the balance was 'R713-90', as the amount that was handed over was R1013-90 and not R713-90 as you claim. All payments referred to by you do reflect already on the account. Furthermore, VeriCred have endeavoured to contact you in the normal collection process by leaving messages at the work place, sms's sent etc. In conclusion, on the handover amount of R1013-90, you have only paid a portion of R713-90 and there is thus still a capital portion outstanding coupled with the legal collection fees accrued, as VeriCred is registered with the Council for Debt Collectors as well as the Association of Debt Recovery Agents. All charges are strictly in line with the laid down procedures, You will thus still be contacted by our agents until the account is settled in full. Kindly fami****ise yourself with debt collection charges on the Council's website: www.cfdc.org.za.
Regards,
VeriCred Collections (Pty) Ltd.
