Once again..!
Once again Vega has taken away our holidays! I know that this pandemic is a big issue and the IIE are annoying as anything, but I'm in second year and I have been working my ass off all semester only for my 2 week holiday to be cancelled in order to fill in the exams we have to write... I don't think this is fair, especially for those that have to work on the side and who are battling with their mental health. Last year was a nightmare and I think we can all agree on that. But this year, people had time to plan, and that plan included giving the student 0 holidays. NOTHING for Easter, Exam sittings for our mid-year exams and nothing in October. As a student, we live for our holidays because it gives us time to take a break from working late and having to worry about 100 projects and POE's. I honestly don't think this is fair and I don't think you put the mental state of your students first. I am honestly broken and trying to get good marks as well as trying to get enough sleep, enough food and enough time to breathe is so mentally destroying and I feel like I'm getting nowhere. This really is sad... I am so disappointed.

We understand and share your frustration and disappointment with the vacation period being repurposed for some students who have sit down exams – students and navigators are affected. The reality is that there is not much time left this year and we are doing our utmost not to impact our student’s graduation completion times. Whilst we do plan, COVID-19 throws us curve ***** that force us to adapt and change course. Due to the limited available weeks left in the academic year and the possibility of a fourth wave our options are few. We have a small number of modules that will be assessed during the 2 week ‘vacation’ period and the rest will move to August.
We are encouraging everyone to take short power breaks throughout the remaining weeks. We will provide additional support mechanisms in the form of academic boosters and wellness sessions. Our Wellness Navigators are available both on campus and online should you want to connect.
We appreciate your dedication and commitment to your studies and understand the heightened pressures during these times. Please connect with your RN and Wellness Navigator to unpack your options.

22 Jul 2021, 14:25Thank you for the response. I understand that navigators are affected too but they are in the working world and when I try to contact my navigator, I don't get a response back. My marketing exams has been postponed with the new date being the 27th and we are only being sent the final brief on the day that the exam is due? This is just wasting more of our time. I understand that everything is hectic and nothing is normal but there are a lot of things such as this problem with the take home exams that are affecting us and when we try communicate with our navigators we either don't get a response or we are brushed to the side.
We got given a seen examination with 6 questions to prepare for (This was when the exam was still going to be written on campus), after the exam was postponed due to COVID, a lot of students started to focus more on the other exams that were still due online. The graphic design students have just submitted their last POE after the riots in Durban and now we have one last exam and that is our marketing one. We still have the initial 6 questions that we were given to work on but we haven't yet gotten the examination paper with the 3 final questions that are chosen to be submitted? This is just a waste of time especially with all the havoc that COVID and the riots caused which made the IIE make some exams happen in the holidays. We are on the verge of a mental breakdown and we have to waste time on writing full length essays when it is possibly not even going to be needed to be submitted? I understand that it is beneficial for us but after everything that has happened, no one is seeing it as beneficial, only as a time waster when we could be getting the exam 100% done with the correct questions answered to the full capacity and also mentally preparing ourselves for the flood of work that semester 2 has for us. This is not cool or fair for the students who have so much on their plates with working and studying and also trying to keep some sanity together.
