Unfairly withholding deposit

I was looking for accommodation and came across their property in Auckland park behind KFC. The man that takes care of the property gave me the agents number Anneki who I contacted expressing my interests in renting a room as its close to the university. Anneki then gave me the banking details to pay the deposit and I told her I can only move in after a month or two so I can raise rent. I paid the amount ofR2900 to secure the place. After a week I contacted her expressing that I will not be able to afford staying there and apologise for the inconvenience and would like to request for the deposit back seeing as I had not moved in anyways. She responded saying she will get back to me. This was from the 10th of May. Until now the 13th of June she reads my messages and does not respond. I even suggested that maybe one of the other tenants that I had referred to her property and are currently living there maybe they can lay me that rental amount and my deposit will be used as there rentamd still she continues to ignore me. I am a student with very difficult financial situations and I honestly just wanted the money back so I can find an affordable place to stay instead of squatting with my friends as I am still homeless.
