Varsity College & assignments
Since the beginning of the year there have been a lot of issues regarding my registration, whereby I was advised that I could register at VC Waterfall as well as VC Sandton for a module that was discontinued at Waterfall but offered at Sandton. After making several trips to Sandton regarding my registration there, I was eventually given my timetable as well as my new fee structure. I was later advised that it was not possible to have a dual registration, therefore, I was advised to transfer fully to the Sandton campus. When I was in the process of moving from Midrand to Sandton I was later advised that I would only be transferred to Sandton in the second semester instead of the first semester. During this time, it was not communicated with me whether I should still continue to attend at Waterfall or not and I was already worried about the assessments that I had already missed at Sandton because by then I had the impression that I was considered as a student enrolled at Sandon. During this time there were also issues with my Bursary and I had to travel almost daily to Pretoria to try and sort out this issue whilst having no communication regarding my transfer. I later needed a letter from Waterfall regarding my registration in order to submit to my Bursary and this letter took some time to obtain as I was advised that the person who was responsible for issuing such a letter was not at work at the time(surely there can't be only one person who is responsible for such a role). During this time, I had assignments that needed to be submitted and at this stage I was extremely stressed and overwhelmed by all that was happening. Furthermore, there was a death in the family and this derailed and overwhelmed me even more. I don't understand why a student is referred to the student hub to apply for a late submission but they don't even provide an option for late submission of assignments on the hub. This whole experience just shows that VC doesn't really consider the plight of students but are only concerned about making money, hence, they drag their feet in resolving issues and consider the plight of students for assignments submitted minutes later after the submission time. Also, the fact that they refused my request to cap the assignments just goes to show how unwilling they are to assist in the plight of a student, but when the institution is at fault you're expected to be patient and understanding.
