Varsity College Sandton

I have been struggling for years to resolve an issue with Varsity College and have had to deal with one Debt Collector after another and their "bullying" tactics to force payment on a student loan I took our for my son 5 years ago. For the record I have been paying a nominal amount every month, what I can afford as a single mother, to prevent legal action being taken or " repossession" of property to repay the capital. I received another letter yesterday from another debt collection agency threatening further legal action. Back to the beginning...two weeks after registering my son for a year at Varsity College and signing a contract, my financial situation changed dramatically. At this stage my son had attended only a few classes. I personally went into Varsity College and explained my situation and was told to write a letter explaining my situation and the de-registration process would start. So I wrote the letter right then and there and handed it in. At this stage I had already paid an installment or two. I never heard anything for weeks if not months and then I was informed that I was liable for the full amount of the contract even though my son was not going to the College apart from a few classes over the first 2 weeks and I was well withing the stipulated cancellation policy. Over the years, in my attempts to resolve this...my de-registration letter " disappeared" and could not be found on the system and I could not get an Attendances Register to prove that my son has not been attending college. I have phoned Varsity College numerous times explaining my situation but they simply just do not care that honest people's situations can change and that theybhave followed the right process. I have been following the progress of students and parents with similar situations so this is a last resort for Varsity College to resolve this situation. I am hoping that Odette Francesconi, MD of Varsity College will contact me in order to finally resolve this. Sonja Gunn
