Varsity college must fall
I’d just like to share my level of disgust, and disappointment in the way varsity college Sandton is conducting themselves during this global pandemic. To sum it all up, this institution is persistent that us as students are forced to write our first semester tests and exams on campus. Last year when the whole of South Africa moved to online teaching, our tests and exams were conducted at home for our safety as well as others. Bare in mind there was no alterations to our university fees, which is simply okay. We are currently in a third wave of infections where daily infections ranges from 10 000+ new cases. Whereby this new strain is fatal to everyone (not just the elderly like before). Personally, in the past month I’ve witnessed many families whom I am related to passing away from covid.
To my knowledge and understanding, various universities are making use of online tests and exams. What makes varsity college so special? One would expect that for the amount that we spend on university fees you conduct business in an ethical manner. I’ve got a family member studying at varsity college as well this year, and each and every one of their tests and exams was done at home. What’s with the double standards?
Apart from having to deal with your ignorance. I’m not sure if you as an institution and ever placed yourself in the students shoes. Have you gone to bed at night in constant fear to receive a phone call at night stating that a family member is seriously ill, and that they are being rushed to hospital? Well if not, that’s just the beginning of what I’ve been living through. And you are adding fuel to the fire that I have to face.
Collectively as students, we have tried countless times to try and find a solution and after the longest time ever, you come up with the dumbest solution to prolong written on campus exams to the end of the year. Come on
To my institution: If you are going to reply, save us both the time and don’t copy and paste that heartless email you’ve been sending us. To my institution: I will not be writing tests on campus, I’ve logged my ticket on VC assist. My dear friends, family is what is important to me and they’ll always be a priority in my life.
Last year there were students studying the exact same degree as I am, and wrote the exact same modules at home. Where was this whole “integrity” then?
Last year, did you give them the other (stupid might I add) option to write these exams December time?
I’ll answer those 2 questions for you.

Please do tell me which other universities are opting for an on campus examination?
Because from my own research, medicine, law, accounting and engineering is all done at home.
And this varies across UJ, Wits, Tuks and UCT.
Stop being insensitive.
I myself have more than enough stress and anxiety from covid. And you’re just adding to that.
You already know what’s going to happen, students will fail modules and you see it as a “money making opportunity”.
