Experience and Policy

<p>I have been a student at VC Sandton since 2012, i am now finally in my third year doing a Bcom Finance.</p> <p>I am Disgusted by the way i have been treated as a student for ever single year i have studied there, the only reason i have stayed is because if i left i would have to start all over again at a different institution.</p> <p> </p> <p>VC is definitely NOT an institution i would recommend to anyone at all.</p> <p> </p> <p>On Thursday, 13 October 2016 i had a Research assignment Submission 3 due at 5pm which counts as 40% of my YEAR mark. Unfortunately due to all the traffic that is currently going on in sandton because of the numerous buildings that are being erected, i was less that 10 minutes late to hand in my assignment. When i got to VC, i rushed to hand in my assignment knowing that i was late but hoping for the same kind of compensation received by other students who have handed in after 5pm. To my surprise i get there and the receptionist is LONG gone as i was told by a lady who works for VC. I then proceeded to sign the assignment sheet and leave my assignment on her desk so that she would receive it the following morning.</p> <p> </p> <p>Today, I called my head of department "Israel Masiane", to find out if he received my assignment and he tells me that my assignment will not be marked because it was late and we have a policy where, if the assignment is not submitted on the day, it is capped at "0%" or reweighted. Israel then proceed to tell me that i must send him a letter of appeal so that he can send it to the iie. Bare in mind that i have sent a letter of appeal to him before (today he said it takes up to 5working days for the iie to respond), but i only received a response almost a month after numerous attempts to contact him. </p> <p> </p> <p>In my 5 yrs of study, i have learnt that VC is quick to respond when the student is at fault but when the university is at fault we are expected to be patience and considerate or we are told "Thats just how things work". </p> <p> </p> <p>An example of this would be in my first year, I "FAILED" my Economics module and had to repeat it in my Second year of study. VC demanded their money at the beginning of the year otherwise i wouldnt be able to redo the module that year. My mother then paid the money in addition to my school fees in the allocated time that we had. </p> <p>Then, having been attending and writing semster tests for the module, by the grace of God, a student helped me to calculate my previous marks, and by doing so we realized that i had actually passed the module i was currently doing. I then went to my HOD and he recalculated and a Pass was then given for the module.</p> <p> </p> <p>We then claimed back the money for the module and instead of getting an immediate response like they expected from us when we had to pay the money, we only received a reimbur*****t from VC MONTHS later, even though the finance lady kept saying it will happen in 2 weeks.</p> <p> </p> <p>There are many other incidents that i could mention in this regard where VC hasnt been efficient, like when we were scheduled to write a Finance Sick test and when we got to the venue, nobody knew where our papers were, then when we got them, there was only one question and the other 2 were missing. After 2 hours of running from lecturer to the sit in HOD for israel, we eventually wrote.</p> <p> </p> <p>Having gone through so many hurdles with VC where i feel as though they were unjust and untruthful and considering the fact that i am in my 3rd Year, i feel as though it would only be fair for my assignment to be accepted especially because it was less than 10 minutes late which the camera footage at reception would be able to prove ( as i have had to be patient with the institution myself, regarding so many different instances throughout my years of study).</p> <p> </p> <p>Regards</p> <p>Disgruntled Student </p> <p> </p>
