Don't promise me what you can't deliver

I popped into the store over the weekend and was attended by a member of staff. The shoes I wanted weren't availeble and he said that they would be ordered for me and would arrive during the coming week. I've just called the store and have been told that they cannot see if the shoes have been ordered and cannot tell me when they will arrive however the promise I was given by the member of staff was wrong because ordering shoes takes 1 to 2 weeks. I was then told by the staff member on the phone that the store cannot take accountability for the actions of its staff. I know bad service when I see it, and I'm looking at it right now
