Refusing to exchange the book

I went to van schaik bookstore to purchase a book only to find out that it was a wrong book, when i was purchasing the boook i showed the cashier the kind of book that I was looking for and he insisted that the one he was selling it to me was the right one since the authors name was the same, after I have paged through the book I realized that it was a wrong book then I return it to the store where they called a manager who first gave me attitude and told me that the book had marks and she can't take it back, after several times that I have argued with her she told me to go to protea book store where they will exchange the book for me,I drove to protea only to find out there is no such thing. I have spend 350 for the book of which I cannot use,I have an exam on Friday that I must prepare for,the manager wasted my time by lying to me and saying I should go to protea, what kind of a service is this? I do not want my money back I needed an exchange for another book hence I have the receipt with me now I must buy another book, what must I do with this one and where must I get the money?this is very disappointing.

Hello Busiratsoma,

We investigated the matter and determined the following: the book in question was bought in July and when presented to the store manager, was no longer in mint condition (which you agreed with).

Our returns policy states you have to return an item within 10 days, it must be in the same condition as what the customer bought it from Van Schaik and it's still the customer's responsibility to ensure that he/she bought the correct item.

Based on this we can unfortunately not exchange the book. We can also not guarantee that another bookseller will buy a secondhand book from a customer. We can merely make a suggestion which is what we did in this particular instance.

Kind regards
