Bullies and *****!
My father was attended to by a doctor in hospital in November 2016. My mom received 3 invoices from the doctor on the same day in October 2017. We thought it was a glitch. On the same day Van Rhyns sent my mom a letter stating if I did not pay the debt they would black list me. She stated that she was confused because her husband was in hospital nine months before and this was the first that she was hearing of the invoice not being paid. She requested an invoice. The invoice she received from the doctor was dated the 31st of October and that she had 30 days to settle the account. She paid the account on 27 October, thus well before the date of the invoice and the 30 days. Keep in mind that the National Credit Act states that the creditor must first send an invoice, then if the debt is not paid within the stipulated time period, 30 days, a letter of demand is sent, by the creditor, that states that if the debt is not paid then the account will be handed over to a debt collection service. The doctors office and Van Rhyns did not follow correct procedure. In spite of the debt being paid to the doctor, Van Rhyns insists that I pay their legal fees to the tune of +-R680. I explained in several emails that correct procedure was not followed and thus I am not liable for the legal fees, they still continue to call, email and harass me at least once a week threatening to black list me for not paying the legal fees. In addition to this they have decided to add interest to the legal fees and it is currently standing at R834.73.. Their most recent harassing email has stated that the amount owed includes the capital amount owed to the doctor, which is a blatant lie. I called the doctor to make sure. Disgusting! They seem to think that because they are attorneys they can ****** money for me. Surprise I have two legal degrees and several attorneys on speed dial. I don't scare so easily.
