Don't book Utopia Guesthouse in Bethlehem ever!

We booked an overnight stay at this "guesthouse" in Bethlehem via Lekkeslaap.co.za. On their site the room was rated 4,5 stars out of 5 stars, but that must be a rating for how bad it was, rather than how good it was. We arrived at 20:15 (which was arranged by Whatsapp with the host Christo), but could not get his attention when we arrived. So I had to walk around the house in 3 grade Celsius, knocking on doors and windows before he finally opened the gate after about ten minutes. By the way, the garden was full of bags and bricks and stuff - it looked like there are running a brickmaking business on the property. We went out for dinner immediately. On our return, we found the following: there was no hot water. Of course you usually found that out, standing in the shower after you have already turned on the hot tap. It was 0 degree Celsius outside. I saw the geiser was turned off and put it in. The next morning at 05:00 when we wanted to drive on, we found the water was hot for a second (really!) and then icy cold again. So none if our family of four could have showered. The duvet covers on all the beds were very old. That was ok, but the linen on the double bed was definitely used (full of creases) and obviously dirty. The mattress on the double bed was terribly worned out. The duvets were paperthin. Christo said there were blankets in the cupboard, but the one was obviously dirty and full of stuff clinging to it, the other must date from 40 years or more years ago - it was something one would donate to a charity and still feel bad about it - maybe useful for a dog's kennel. The carpet was dirty and I picked up two needlework needles sticking out if it - there could have been more, we all put shoes on. The decoration in the room was tacky (old pie tin with candle wax for a candle, really?) and ceiling paintwork that really does not enhance anything. The little en suit bathroom with its tacky shelves and someone's shampoo standing there, smelled like mould. We paid R700 for the night on a so-called 20% winter discount. Their normal rates must be around R880. I don't want anyone to be cheated like this. Stay away!!!! The positive ratings on the website must surely be ****.
