Refusal to Settle Car Accident Claim

Unity car insurance must be up there in the top five of worst insurance companies in South Africa.

I have been with Unity for as long as I have had my BMW (3 years now). All premiums paid up to date. My problems started when I had an accident three weeks ago. They came to tow the car and to assess it. It took them three weeks to assess the car.

Their assessor called and informed m ethat the car had noises in the engine that were not casue by the accident. Not to mention that he is no expert of BMW or car engines. After this, they decided that they will not settle the claim as the costs f repairing the car was below the access amount. I handed this matter over to my lawayers to deal with them. They are now caling me to "resolve the issue". The "expert" assessor now says that he is not the expert of engines and he doesn know if the engine noise was caused by the accident (Retracting his initial statement).

I have since handed over this matter to my lawyers who are dealing wiht htis matter. Not only will this cost me more money, but the delays and inconvienience caused by this is unbearable.

My plea to anyone looking for car insurance. Stay as far away as possible from Unity. Its not worth it.

Regards

Angry Customer (Thapelo Khanana)
