Imagine sending 3 jackets home from another country and paying a premium fee (+R3000) hoping that your family will get it a week or 2 later because it's winter. Your jackets then arrive in the country a week later but the people handling your package are so inefficient that it takes more than 14 emails, additional clearance forms, 21 days and are wanting to charge you another R3500 to get it to your family. Well this is what is my reality and I'm still dealing with a team of people at UPS that cannot seem to process a package.
TLDR: If i were to give you a breakdown of this process it all started August 11. I sent a box with jackets, candy, snacks and some toys for my nieces and nephews from Korea. The Korean post office curbed me and removed everything that was not allowed, leaving the box with only 2Jackets and a hoody. I wrote a letter on the box and because of this they decided not to change the size of the box but instead cut and taped up the box to make it smaller and lighter.
5 days later the tracking services then indicated that the package reached South Africa and this is where the nightmare began. First they called my mom saying that it'd cost around R3500 to release the package to which I then queried as to why since I already paid and that the contents of the box is all 2nd hand clothes and not worth that much. The lady at UPS then sent me some forms and asked me to complete them and have them stamped by a Police Commissioner which was wild because I had indicated that I was in another country. She then said that I need to complete the forms along with my passport (and passport stamps) and my a copy of my ID card. All of this information felt very personal but I submitted it either way. Also, mind you I was doing this so that my package can get cleared and I did this within perhaps 2 days, if not less (since I am in another country and the time difference and all). After submitting these forms, they then passed my case onto someone else who then told me that because I took too long (2days) to process the forms that the package was sent back (not sure where that is) and that it will take 7-14 days to process. *insert peak levels of frustration.
Trying to stay calm and not wanting to attribute poor service as a South African problem (because I am a proud South African), I then query whether I'd be penalized for not clearing the package within 7-14 days and the lady says no. I then ask again, what the next steps are and they say the package won't be sent to the US (1. I'm relieved and 2. why would they even do that if it never came from there to begin with). The lady responds saying that my package will be handed over to another dept (I assumed) with an email stating "**********, can you please assist with an invoice". To this I didn't respond because I genuinely felt that they were mocking me.
So here I am, just sent them another email, it's been almost a month since I sent the pack using the express option. If I had known it was going to take this long, I would have gladly used freight shipping that would've taken 2months to arrive, costed me a 10th of the price and a lot less stress.
I'm not sure who's going to read this but if you have the powers, please help a brother out.
Thank you
