United Airlines direct - no more

My flight with United to the US was supposed to be different as it was direct from Cape Town to New York and then on to San Francisco. The going out flight had no issues apart from a long wait at immigration. Coming back, tired from a weeks business meetings, was a totally different story. Due to delays caused by various issues, we sat on the runway for over 2 hours in San Francisco. This caused that I missed the flight to South Africa. This was the Friday night and the issue is that United only flies out on Fridays and Sundays from NewArk. Then the issues started piling up. Firstly they refused to accomodate me in a hotel. Then they agreed to accomodate me for one night,but I should pay for the second. Then they gave me choice of either paying for the second noght or flying the following day via Munich adding effectively 2 days to my trip. And spending a whole day at the airport in Munich. I had no choice but to accept the second option and had to fly back via Munich. This is totally unacceptable as i flew direct in the first place and their refual to fly me back the Sunday night and pay for an additional night's hotel accommodation caused this. Suffice to say that I will not be flying United again, Their staff did not want to listen to any reasoning and treated an international flight like any other local flight in the US.
