Useless Unisa!
I am what is called a 'foreign student' at Unisa, a South African living abroad in Hong Kong and studying my PGCE through Unisa. This has been a very lengthly process and at times very difficult as communication with Unisa has been non-existent.
I am supposed to graduate this year, in fact, in April but have yet to hear from Unisa. I have emailed them and phoned their campuses on numerous occasions to find any information about this. I was fortunate enough to be back home is February this year and visited the PE branch where I was advised that all is well and I have completed the required subjects. All my fees have been paid up. I was told I had to wait for them to be audited. I have since heard back from them, only to be told that I will not be graduating as I have not completed the course and that I owed them money, which I have screen shots of my current balance of zero on the student portal. I now have to take a subject in the second semester. Why have I only been told this information now?
I was told when registering that because of my previous degree, I could apply to be exempt from two subjects. During the time of the university strikes across South Africa, I managed to come home and obtain the necessary documents from my previous place of study for Unisa. I submitted those documents in September 2017. I was only informed a few weeks ago that I will not be credited for these subjects and need to do them in the second semester.
Obtaining my degree will now be put off for another year. The school that I currently work at needs all my information for my job and this will affect whether or not I will receive a post for the new school year.
I wonder how many other people this has happened to, and if they have the means to carry on for another year of studying.
What am I to do Unisa? Lose my job?
I am still waiting for your reply to my email...
Kate
