UNISA what is going on?
I hold honours degrees from the University of the Wi****ersrand and UNISA. I enrolled at UNISA in 1990 and was so impressed. After 4 years of hard work and interactions with a dedicated staff, I graduated in 1995. After a great deal of difficulty, I managed to enrol at UNISA for the second time in 2021. The subject, Psychology, is fascinating. BUT the administration at UNISA is appalling. Today we had a letter of apology for a mix up with exam times. On Thursday there was a note about the submission of 4 assignments. All for the 22nd of August. I am not sure how their web interface will cope! Earlier in the year, there was a change in the due dates for assignments. The Parow office did not know about it. The university publishes the telephone numbers of lecturers then states that it will only accept communication via the dedicated email line. Just by chance, I managed to get through to a department head a few weeks ago. I had gained 76% and 80% for my second and third assignments but the fourth one only received 16%. He admitted that the wrong marking memorandum had been used. By the way, the first assignment was sent in May and still hasn't been marked. So my year mark stands at about 20% for one course and the other 40%. I think I can kiss goodbye to my ambitions of gaining a 1st class pass. This is a scandal. I am a privileged person with all the academic support and technology I need. A student living in a rural area has no chance faced with this sort of incompetence. I am 77-year-old school teacher and grieve for the young hopefuls I am teaching if this is what stands between them and their dreams.
