Unisa PVL 1501 online examination Complaint
I am a UNISA student and the treatment I received from them in terms of online examinations was beyond horrific. I experienced system issues while trying to log in to the examination portal that was introduced recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I thought that the initiative of writing examinations online was a brilliant idea because our health as students is their first priority. However, the system put in place is not user-friendly and they have to train their consultants and equip them with enough knowledge to be able to properly navigate the system and be in a position to provide conducive guidance and support to fellow students who are experiencing system issues while trying to log in to the examination portal. I then called their call centre at 15:30 to ask for assistance and to enquire which group I fall under. I spoke to Jane Mmutlane and she was very unprofessional, unwilling to assist and she did not know what she was doing. People like that should not service calls. Due to this incident, I was unable to access my examination on time of which I was unknowingly part of the group that was writing at that particular time. She gave me an alternative number which is ***, of which it was not a toll free number. I did not have airtime and did not have time to go to the shops because it was time for me to write my examination. However, she informed me that if I cannot access the link, it means that I fall under the second group. When I was preparing to log in with the second group, the system took me straight to the first group session and notified me that I am left with only 18 minutes out of the 2 hours and 15 minutes that was allocated. I attempted to answer the questions but it was already too late. I spoke to a second consultant who refused to provide me with her name and she did not introduce herself properly when taking the call. She was very rude and was not willing to listen to my query. She informed me that there are other students that called regarding the same issue I was experiencing. She further stated that she was not aware that students were divided into two groups of which that is the communication I received from my lecturer prior to the examination. This information was not filtered to the consultants who are supposed to be assisting students. The consultants were not trained and were not equipped enough to assist students encountering system issues during the course of the examination. As such, I was unable to answer all the questions due to the incompetence of the consultants, the lecture and a whole team of coordinators . I am paying for my own fees and I am a father of four, who is working 12 to 14 hours a day to better my life and give my children a better start to their future. Unisa has crushed my spirit, dedication and hard work. They have paralysed me financially as I will have to rewrite the module and pay for it. We are facing hard times as a nation and Unisa needs to play their part in ensuring that their employees who are representing Unisa are well equipped. In conclusion, the service I received when writing Law Of Persons module was appalling.
