Unisa Independent contractors Markers abuse of management in college of psychology of education
Markers wanting to mark for unisa please note the following act of victimisation form a HPCSA registered professor and psychologist, Kamleshie Mohangi.
A professor in the college of psychology of education called Kamleshie Mohangi is in charge of allocating markers scripts to mark has victimised a marker. When a marker got paid late which was the fault of the university, this professor decided to withhold further allocation of scripts from this particular marker while waiting to get paid thus depriving the marker of earning a salary worth around R15 000 - R20 000.
When the marker informed the lecturer that it does not state in the contract that work must be withheld from the markers while waiting to get paid, this lecturer, Kamleshie Mohangi cruelly decided to withhold the scripts completely and allocate the marker absolutely nothing for the current batch and the last batch of assignments this depriving the marker of earning another salary.
The lecturer indicated the marker must address the issue with the Chair of department called Prof Dan Tlale which the marker had done and asked for a fair solution as she had been excluded from marking and deprived of earning a salary for a reason that wasn't the markers fault. In addition the professor then deleted the marker from the markers whatsapp group the professor created and blocked the marker on whatsapp. The CoD, professor Dan Tlale took 3 weeks to reply to the markers email and did absolutely nothing about the matter. The CoD ignored the markers request to resolve the matter and allowed the professor to get away with the act of victimisation towards the marker.
When the marker emailed Prof Kamleshie Mohangi for a meeting to resolve the matter via their formal channels which is MS Teams, the professor just ignored the marker completely. The marker had been allocated no further work even while under contract and received no further communication regarding the work.
This HPCSA registered Unisa lecturer by the name of Kamleshie Mohangi has harmed the marker and breached the contract by informally terminating the markers contract without any formal or informal communication to even say it was terminated. No reasons were given as to why the marker will receive no work. No feedback regarding poor performance of work was given either. The marker had just been ghosted.
Markers need to be aware of the above acts of victimisation and lack of respect from the above unisa staff in higher positions. Not all staff are like this. The lecturer who was intitially in charge of the module who appointed the marker was highly professional but then resigned. The professor who committed the acts of victimisation then took over. Though the law protects independent contractors, most legal insurance does not cover disputes with independent contractors and these lecturers know this which is why they are confident in their acts of abuse of power because they know they will get away with it. Markers in the above situation who would like to take matters further legally, will need to do so at their own expense.
According to Psychology Today, ghosting some is a primitive coping mechanism and is characterized by personality traits such as narcissim, lack of remorse and an increased sense of grandiose. It is also associated with lack of communication skills. When wanting to work as a marker for unisa in the college of psychology of education, please be aware of the above experience. When reporting this abuse to the management, at Unisa, they did nothing about it. Unisa management needs to exercise fairness and promote healthy working relationships that does not consist of abuse and victimisation of markers as this gives Unisa a bad reputation.
