justice denied

Fr. Joe Slattery ********** /> Oct 31

to finan, me

Dear Mr. Lesabe:

I am making a final effort to correct the injustice that continues to be done to student L.E. Maqabangqa (# ********** 8) with regard to receiving his results. I had personally paid his fees (copies attached) in February of this year – he even overpaid an extra amount of R90 himself. Each time he has written about this matter he receives a form letter in reply telling him that “certain monies are still outstanding” to his account. He has telephoned many, many times about this matter, but the problem has never been corrected.

He needs now to be given immediately his results/certificate for completion of the Course ‘Victim Empowerment Programme’. He is currently trying to apply to NNMU, but the absence of recognition he needs for this course is holding it up.

I find it disgraceful that a student, who is doing all he can to move forward with his life, should be treated with such disregard. I have known him well for over twenty years. I would like to help him further, but I cannot do anything to correct this error. Please correct it immediately. He knows a number of others who are in a similar position.

As I wrote above, this is my final attempt to resolve this matter. If Mr. Maqabangqa does not receive his certificate and result within 7 (days) from today, that is, by Nov. 7, I intend to go to the Press and expose this incompetence. I would rather not do that, but his situation makes me very angry.

Sincerely,

(Rev.) Joseph A. Slattery, Ph.D.

Director, Education, Catholic Diocese of Port Elizabeth
