Life threatening negligence by Unino Motors, Nelspruit.

Hello

on the 1st of June 2016 I took in my vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, for service (15000 km) at Union Motors, Nelspruit. At or around lunch time I received a call that the vehicle was ready for collection.

i collected the vehicle and upon collection they didn't give me the document or job card which indicates the parts of the vehicle which were serviced.

I parked the vehicle at my house and used another vehicle until 3 June 2016. On the 3rd of June 2016 I used the vehicle to drive to Richards Bay and I was traveling with my younger brother, wife and 4 year old daughter.

after driving for about 50 kilometers whilst we were turning around a sharp bend, the vehicle started shaking profusely and then a sudden banging sound was heard from the rear side of the vehicle and the vehicle was not longer controllable and almost capsized.

I fortunately managed to control the vehicle and bring it to a stand still. When we alighted from the vehicle we realized that the rear left wheel of the vehicle had come off from the vehicle whilst we were driving.

Road side assistance came to our assistance and there were no injuries sustained but we could no longer attend my cousin's wedding.

The worst was on the 7th of June 2016 I confronted Union Motors and a gentleman by the name of Gerald who is some Manager told me that their job card indicates that they had not removed the wheels when they serviced the vehicle. He obviously didn't know that I know that they have an internal document which their mechanics use when they service a vehicle and one of the first steps upon service is that they must remove the wheels of the vehicle.

Gerald said that at 15000 km the brake pads of Jeep Wrangler vehicles are not normally damaged so they didn't check them. This obviously didn't make sense to me because people don't drive the same way and at the same places so brake pads don't depend on kilometers.

When I asked him that question he told me that they lifted the vehicle and only looked from underneath because it's easy to see the brake pads of a Jeep Wrangler from there.

Today is the 10th of June 2016 and they have not even called me to tell me how far they have gone and/or what they intend to do. They advised me that they wanted to run an investigation and would revert to me shortly but shortly has been more than 2 days.

My approach is that either way Union motors was negligent in this regard and must take reaponsibility for this whole mess and I say that for the following reasons:

1. They removed the tyres and failed to tighten the *****s when putting the wheels back in place; and/or

2. If they didn't remove the wheels then that was negligence still because their guideline indicates that they should removed them and inspect the brakes, it's also my submission that they would have most probably picked up any fault with the mechanism that hold the wheel if they had removed it upon aervice.

They are casual about this when I could have lost my life or that of a family member if the events of that day had taken another turn.

I am not the only person who has complained about the service from this branch. I faced other unsatisfactory service from this branch when I took in another vehicle for service but it was not as life threatening as this one.

I request that that this matter be followed up.
